It was nice to have another little break last week but lot happening this weekend against the Mallee Eagles.
We unveil our first indigenous jumper today. The design looks great and has a strong meaning as explained at training on Thursday night. It is great that local clubs get the opportunity to acknowledge Naidoc week. There will be a smoking ceremony before the senior game today and an indigenous dance at half time.
The SHFNC also value the history of our club and today we celebrate a number of premiership years. We welcome players and officials of Senior football – 1961, 1972, 1982, 1991, and 2011. Reserves football – 2012. A Grade Netball – 1982 and 2012. B Grade netball 2012 and B Res netball 2012. We welcome everyone to today’s game and look forward to seeing some old faces at the game!
To 2 weeks ago against the Tigers:
Netball
It was a close game in the U12s with the young Swans getting over the line by 3 goals. Award winners Lana Brooks (Pearsons) and Meg Bennett (McDonalds) The U14 side came up against a very well drilled Tigers side but will look to bounce back this week. Award winners Millie Lawry (Canteen) and Tillie Bennett (218 degrees). The U16 side played a very good brand of netball and had a convincing win. This side is starting to gel well on the court. Award winners Alana Gracia (Pearson) and Grace Doherty (pizza). The U18 side also played well and had a good victory against the Tigers. Award winners were Amy Simpson (ARC) and Charlotte Angus (Beauty Spot). B Res are on top of the ladder and had another good win. They will look to continue on their wining way today. Award winners Amy Pohlner (Swanbucks) and Rachel Moloney. B Grade couldn’t get the win against the Tigers but battled hard. Award winners Chelsea Mazzarella (M Kelly Massage) and Sophie Reed (Swan Bucks). A Res had an important win against the Tigers for their ladder position. Award winners Rom Kenney )Paper Scissors Rock) and Karen Thamm (Swan Bucks). Its always a great clash against the Tigers in the A Grade with the Swans prevailing. This cements the A grade side in the five but another very important game against the Eagles today.
Football
The U12s played in chilly conditions but kept their unbeaten record in tact. Well done boys. Their skills and teamwork keep improving and that is the aim of the coaches as we play the last third of the season. The U14.5 were too good in their match and keep their top of the ladder position. Best players Sacha Retsas, Mitch Hinton, Sam Scott, Hugh Langley-Sheldrick, Bodhi Kelly and Tyler Marold. The colts was a fantastic game of junior football with result being 3 points in the end with the Tigers kicking a goal just before the final siren. Better players were Seamus Doherty, Shannon Polglase, Conner Arif, Lachlan Vroljiks, Kaillum Polglase and Jem Sibley. The reserves came up against the ladder leaders and were no match.against the Tigers. They will be looking for a better showing against the Eagles today. Better players for the Swans were Brian Burke, Ben Pearse, Jack Charleson, Sam Coffey, Josh Brooks and Will Garvie. The senior game was a tight first half with the young Swans taking it up to their better credentialled oppositition howver could not maintain it in the last half. Should be a great game against the Eagles today. Better players were Xav Moloney, Matt Wade, Brendan Blackmore, Tom Holdstock, Brad Williamson and Toby Thoolen.
Social: Reunion Weekend – Fri 8th to Sunday 10th July
Naidoc Round – Saturday July 9
Good luck to all Swans against the Tigers today!
