Football

Our 4ths were a little outsized through some key match ups but despite this were determined to

play their style of Football. Cooper Hein returned from holidays to dominate across half back and brother Xav Hein down forward in his first game kicked his first goal. Xav Murray and Charlie Toohey continued their great start to the year

Award Winners: Cooper Hein (Kerang Electronics), Drew McNeil (Riversdale Farms), Xav Hein

(Toohey Farms), Cal Ettershank (Lake Charm Salt), Dusty Thomson (Mawson’s), Will Ettershank (Canteen)

Our 3rds had a great tussle and were bolstered by the inclusion of a couple of Meehan’s. Thanks to Cooper and Tyler for coming out to play the game and you are welcome back at any stage. Chase Coulter marked strongly all day and the midfielders Sam Copland, Noah Shea and Jack Keath played great games.

Award Winners: Tyler Meehan (McKnight & Bray), Darcy Strange (Nethercote Farms), Khai O’Reagan (D & J Hein), Zeb Hein (John Morrow), Free Kongphueng (AB Building)

Our Reserves again started well but couldn’t hit the scoreboard. Mick Zambelli was in a bit of a

swingman role back and forward. Matt Davies was strong over the ball and provided some great ball movement with Simon Morton also continuing his impressive start to the year.

Award Winners: Matt Davies (Dickson Livestock), Cooper Williams (Kerang Car Wash)

Seniors played their best footy at times but were unable to sustain it for a full quarter until the last where they were able to kick 5 goals to win the quarter. Nathan O’Toole is in career best form with clearances and work up forward. Dustin Blake is too having a great year and was able to knock up getting possessions.

Award Winners: Luke Murphy (Royal Hotel), Rhys Carmichael (Mystic Park)

Under 14 - lost 19-33.

The 14’s was a battle of two undefeated sides and it was a great contest with the girls matching it with Ultima for the first half, only 2 down at half time. Unfortunately the second half didn’t go our way, credit to a handy little Ultima side. Lots of positives to come from this match though, with lots of combinations being tried the girls will look to keep improving and come back strong when they play Ultima again. Awards to Sadie Spitty (AB Building $5) who lead the goal scoring for the team, Macy Bray (Morrow socks), and Ella Henry (Chips).

Under 17 - lost 8-48.

It was always going to be a tough day against the top of the ladder side who are very well drilled. Awards went to Kate Whorwood (Harvey/Laursen $20) for her drive and talk through the midcourt, Enmity Hartley (Lake Charm salt $5) and Claire Polkinghorne (Chips).

B res - lost 32-36

This game was a close tussle, the girls won both the first and last quarters but it wasn’t enough to take the game. It was great to see Georgia Andrew-Mills (Terry White Chemmart) back in the blue and white dress and her strength and reliability in goals was a welcome addition. We also had Sharni Maher (Pam’s $30) back for the week, her determination and athleticism would be awesome to have back every week in defence.

B grade won 40-19.

It took awhile to gain the upper hand in this match with a lot of back and forth during the first half. Whatever the coaches said in the half time huddle must have been good as the girls came out and dominated the second half, making the most of their opportunities.Jo Danson (Tailored Peach) shouldered the bulk of the scoring load and just kept presenting in great position in the goal circle. Aimee Sinclair (Little Shoe Shop) lead the defensive end and won back plenty of ball.

A grade - won 48-30.

The A  grade thought this would be a tough battle as it always is against Ultima. Neither team could wrestle the momentum during the first half but some positional tweaks at half time saw the girls leap ahead, winning ball back quickly and converting accurately. Best players to Montana Keating (Scissors hair) who lit up the goal circle and was on fire with her shooting and Mary Yates-Ward (Solid Collective) who was her ever reliable self in WA, always presenting and hitting circle edge.

Big thanks to all the netballers who donated a casserole and to those who chipped in to serve dinner last weekend, especially Jo Gillingham who coordinated the kitchen. It was great to see everyone enjoying themselves at Bogan Bingo, well done to the social committee for organising such a great event.
