Hay Lions Netball reports – Round 4 vs Macorna (in Hay) – 6/05/2023
A Grade
Macorna 52 defeated Hay 36
Hay was only down by 4 at the first break, then matched them in the second, scoring 12 goals each. Hay lost it a bit in the 3rd quarter, but came out strong in the last with some position changes, matching them again scoring 9 goals each. Emma Johnston (South Hay Best On) worked hard in defence, applying pressure, getting many touches and intercepts. Jade Auldist (DG Harrison Umpires Award) worked consistently throughout the game and was very level-headed moving the ball down the court and feeding into the ring, and Players Player Hay Lions Club Award went to Elle Jamieson.
B Grade
Macorna 36 defeated Hay 25
B grade started off strong, Ellie Jamison (Hay Bowling Club Best On Award) and Indi Hicks’ (Tantrum Hair and Beauty Coaches Award) defence was really tight, making it hard for the Macorna shooters. Hannah McGufficke shot some great long range goals, working well in the circle with Lily Tassell (Riv Hotel Players Player). The girls went in to the third quarter down by 2, but started off a bit flat, so Macorna took advantage gaining a strong lead. In the last quarter the Hay girls come back strong, but unfortunately it wasn’t enough after Macorna’s third quarter efforts.
B Reserve
Hay 53 defeated Macorna 31
B Res took on a determined Macorna who came with a team who could do the job on any other day, but not this day, as Hay is enjoying a winning streak and firing at their best. All players put in 100% and the team has a good vibe amongst their many players. B Res has a player list of 13 who are working in well to produce the best result for the club. Congrats to Kylie Brettschneider who took out both the Players Player and the IGA Award and Talitha Brown taking out the Hannah McGufficke Hairdressing Award.
Under 17’s
Hay 59 defeated Macorna 17
A fantastic performance from the Hay Lions U17s team, their accurate shooting, great moving and passing, speedy play in the centre court, and strong defence were all key factors in their success. Emily Caughey (Murrumbidgee Realestate), was strong in GD, shutting down all attempts at goals and making it difficult for the Tigers to get any momentum going. Ella Harrison (Peter Mullins building) was outstanding in WD, providing excellent support to the defence and linking up well with the mid-court. In WA, Emily Taylor (Active Farmers) was reliable and strong, providing a steady hand in the centre.
Under 14’s
Hay 40 defeated Macorna 5
Macorna struggled to get a foothold in the game with the consistent defence of Jade Doidge and Matilda Nisbet (Hay Callisthenics Award) intercepting the ball, creating vital turnovers then utilised by the mid court and goal shooters. Strong control by the midcourt players, including Emily Taylor (Lund Contracting Award) created both momentum and opportunities in Hays attacking end. A good display of defence in the centre court by Evie Creighton (Hay Newsagents Award) who made the opposition work very hard on the court.
F Troop
Hay 33 defeated Macorna 3
The girls showed their new skills and moved the ball down the court through their channels. Everyone played well and were focused on moving forward and into space, passing to where their teammate wanted the ball and were mindful of their footwork. Award winners were Charli Clarke (Canteen Award) who had her best game yet, Sophie Griffiths (Active Farmers Award) for always running into space and backing up when needed, and Alaina May (Canteen Award) for her fantastic shooting and circle work
