Wandella FNC Club Notes Round 3 2023

After a damp opening to the season in round 1, it was the exact opposite in round 2 as Ultima put on a picture-perfect day (no excuse for the fumbles for the Midday Show boys this time!). Sunscreen was dished out as much as deep heat for the day and I’m sure the boys who cover themselves in oil (they know who they are) ended up just a little bit burnt.

Thanks to Ultima for asking us to take part in their annual ANZAC Day clash, it was great to be involved in such a special occasion and we look forward to doing it again next year!

We must have a few drawcards running around in our sides this year as once again a massive crowd rolled in for the day, I can only imagine they’ll be lined up out the gate once Sam Sperling makes his return…

For the second week in a row the canteens struggled to keep up with demands, which can only be a positive sign of the massive crowds. After having to settle for Two Minute noodles at half-time last week, this week I was forced to choose between a pastie or a packet of chips. Old George Fenton would’ve gladly had three pasties, but I personally enjoyed my Light n Tangy chips.

Highlights

We look to our junior football for the highlights this week as they both got on the board with their first win of the season!

Highlight 1:

Young superstar, Jaspa Chamberlain, celebrated his 100^th club game in style this weekend with three goals as his under 14’s side had a strong win to give Coach Russell ‘King’ Waddingham the first win of his coaching career! A great testament to Jaspa’s commitment to his footy and Wandella that he has already notched up 100 games although I’m sure that Chum was quick to remind him that while 100 games is great, five BnFs is better! A few other boys also showed their dads how it’s done with Sammy H & Will Mellington kicking a couple snags each while Seth Rowe jagged one more BoG than Michael did for the day! Great stuff lads!

Highlight 2:

Our thirds boys also secured their first won of the season, putting on a fantastic team performance with a 20 point win securing the premiership points. Griff Fowler starred through the midfield with more contested possessions that leftover pasties in the canteen. Archer Lancaster snagged a lazy goals while hitout machine Charlie Atkinson, Zac Mellington and Myles Greenwood were the other better players.

Highlight 3:

Coach Nugget kept his shirt on all day. If only he could do the same on Tuesday & Thursday nights…

Social Club

It’s player Player Calcutta Auction & Cow Pat Lotto time after our clash with Murrabit today. Group 7 looks like the prime Calcutta group to purchase in my very correct opinion, while Dicko assures me he has have our cow loaded up with hay and ready to produce when the lotto kicks off after dinner. Hope everyone remembers to bring their wallets!
