Round 2: 22/4/23

Ultima v Wandella Club Notes:

Football:

U/14.5’s

We were still a little undermanned this week but we put up a great fight for most of the day1-2 goals per quarter which is an excellent effort.  Keep up the hard work and the rewards will come.

U/17.5’s

We have struck two tough opposition in the first couple of rounds and today will be even tougher again.  We have a very talented team and the work ethic and commitment to each other is second to none.  Blake had his work cut out at full back and Jack Miller was everywhere.  In an even comp, keep grinding away and the wins will start coming.

Reserves:

Wandella were last years runners up and were in for a battle against our reserve’s boys from the first bounce.  It was a very even game with the mighty Roo’s pulling away ever so slightly each quarter.  If they keep the training up and the lads in line for senior selection keep putting their best foot forward, they will find themselves in the seniors whilst helping the 2’s along.  Great to see Kade Benfield and Corey Grey back on the park booting an impressive 7 goals and 3 goals respectively.

Seniors:

It was an even mix of attack and defence against the Bombers for our inaugural Anzac clash.  Jamie Nicholas showed he can play at either end of the ground and was recipient of the ANZAC Medal awarded by the umpires.  Willy Nelson and Jack Fletcher would have been a very close second with their well-rounded games and an even spread of goal kickers showed we are starting to find a nice balance.  Each week throws up new challenges and this week Wandella kept at us for the full 4 quarters.

Netball:

U12s

Amazing game by the girls today, so good to see them improving each quarter and having a lot of fun.

Another great game with all the girls putting in the effort. Everyone contributed and worked well together to ensure the win. Well done girls!

Ella Atkins and Scarlet Grey stepped up to play U17s this week and both performed incredibly well. Everyone contributed to the overall win. Well done girls!

B – Reserve:

Good game, all played well with a comfortable lead all day.

First home game, first win. Great game by all girls, everyone contributed to the win. Still a bit to work on, but couldn’t be happier with how we are tracking.

Round 3 preview:

This week we welcome Macorna FNC to the Ultima Rec Reserve for the Headspace Round.  It is sure to be another challenge in a very even competition but getting early season wins is a must so foot down boys.

Stick around after the game for our Night School function and be sure to call into the Ultima Hotel for a bevvy on the way home.
