U12- With a 2 goal win, our little U12s sure did put on a show for us today. With only 7 players, Thanks goes to Stella who was our bench warmer. All girls worked well together as a team down the court. The intercepts in our defensive end were huge, thanks to Blair, Lily & Ruby. Cienna & Ayla did the team proud with their goal shooting. The 3rdqrt saw them shooting 5 to Moulamein’s 1. Our mid court in Bella & Paige made great leads and supported around the ring at all times. Our Terrific Tiger award (Tiff Bartram) went to Bella for her great running game in C and defensive work in GK for the last qrt. Ruby got our Amazing Achiever award (Your Support) for her high jumping and intercepting skills.
Under 14.5 Football:
Much better conditions for football this week, the boys gelled well sharing the ball around all team mates. Against a smaller moulamein side, our structure and passages of play showed a lot of promise for the future and the season. Well done team!
Goal kickers: C. Carmichael (8), Ja. Tonkin (5), E. Ray (4), W.Longstaff (2), O. Tonkin (2), T. Lacy (2), M. Quaife (2), J. O’Rourke (2), D. Wishart (1), A. Lacy (1), Ju. Tonkin (1)
Best: M. Quaife, Ja. Tonkin, E. Warren
U14 – Another week of the girls finding their feet as a team. The first 3 quarters were amazing with some great passage of play down the court, great defensive pressure and fantastic team work. Unfortunately with some changes in the last quarter and the heat of the day we just didn't get it over the line.
Awards this week - Briney Ferris best on donated by MMWF Pizzas
Coaches award went to Makenna Thompson
Under 17.5:
Perfect conditions for footy today, really proud of the boys who were switched on from the first bounce. Moulamein came at us hard but we played fair footy and beat them with our skill and pace. Massive team effort and a special thank you to our boys who played a half for the opposition. Looking forward to Ultima this week.
Goal Kickers: B. Forster (6), B. Abblet (3), B. Wishart (2), W. Meharry (2), S. Whinfield (2), L. Farrell (1), R. Nicholson (1), D. Cullen (1)
Bests: S. Whinfield, B. Forster, X. Wishart
Under 17’s:
The Under 17s netball was an evenly contested match in our first home game of the season. With a maximum 3 goals difference, the pressure never seemed to ease. Macorna played exceptionally well, credit to the girls who played great with unfamiliar combinations. The awards went to Kendal Modra, who excelled in defence for the first time this season, and Rosie Pearce, who read the ball amazingly for some stellar intercepts.
B Reserve:
B Reserves proved to not only be gracious and accomodating hosts to Moulamein on Court 2, at Home in Round 2, but also consistent in their play since last they met; with a win, 54 to 23.
First quarter saw our B Res Goaler’s finding their feet on home turf, becoming slowly, but surely more settled in the goal circle, as we made our way through each quarter. Plays up and down the court, through channels, improved consistently amongst all players. Notably, Tiffany Kelly provided some outstanding defensive play and turnovers in Centre and Wing Defence, earning her our ‘1st Best on Court’, working well with fellow mid-court players Leeza Wishart, Bri Waterson, Kiara Robinson, Jordyn Simpson, Samantha Smith, Morgan Shields and Sherri Sutherland. Our ‘2nd Best on Court’ Sherri Sutherland, Wing Attack, proved to have her team mates backs, creating excellent opportunities for space, utilised channels well and was even observed mentoring the opposition when seeing them offside.
It was fabulous for to have our first week of our official B Reserve team on court, with Aleisha Carmichael back with us, and it was a strong one at that. Congratulations to all players for their hard work and for putting their work at trainings into action on the court!
Reserves:
Perfect conditions for our first home game, it gave the twos every opportunity to improve from last weeks lose. Throughout the game the fellas began to work as a team and held a lead over Moulamein all day. Moula held in there for three quarters but fell away in the last, with our boys running over them. The team was a lot more composed last week and are looking forward to the challenge at Ultima this week. Up and about, go tiges!
Goal kickers: C. Wilson (6), S. Randell (5), J. Randell (2), J. Berryman (1), L. Thompson (1), T. McIntosh (1), S. Griffiths (1)
Best: C. Wilson, M. Comer, S. Randell
B Grade:
B grade went down by 10 unfortunately. We just need to learn to trust each other when moving the ball down the court. Again I think we will go much better once we have settled into the season. Awards went to Lee Hardie who is pushing for A grade and Haylee Forster who played a great game.
A Grade:
Moulamein have recruited well in the off season resulting in a very strong A grade outfit. We felt we were with them most of the game but they just got away from us in the last. Will be great to have another chance at them once we have gelled more as a team. Awards went to Em Wishy who was unreal in defence and Cat Whinfield who was feeding magnificently.
Seniors:
Tough loss last week for our senior team against a strong Moula side. Skill errors cost us and our turnovers resulted in a number of goal. We will need to clean up these errors this week if we want to get the win.
Goals: M. Neiwand (3), T. Parker (2), J.Walters (2), J. Cameron (1), S. Haffenden (1), J. Featherby (1)
Best: T. Whinfield, J. Featherby, W. Robinson
Tiger News
It was a terrific day for our first home game last week, a big thank you to all of our volunteers who put in huge amounts of time getting everything ready for a very busy day. Especially Becky and the team in the canteen, hots days always result in a long day in the canteen. Enjoy the two away games before another big day at Macorna.
Today is the Head Space Round, focusing in particular on looking after our mates on and off the field. This is a cause very close to our hearts at Macorna and feel very privileged to assist Head Space in getting the message out there. Please always know that there is always someone at Macorna willing to listen and help, we are all here for each other, that is what being apart of a club is all about. Today, and every day, we encourage you to check in with your mates and let them know that you are there for them no matter what the conversation is about.
Last week after training we were treated to some beautiful wood fired pizzas from Matty and his crew from Murray Mallee Wood Fired Pizzas! Matty and MMWP are major sponsors at Macorna and we appreciate all the years he has supported our club. Matty offers catering and supplies many stores from all over Victoria and Southern New South Wales with his ‘Grab n Go’ pizzas. Thanks for all the pizzas and support Matty!
Tonight after the game we are heading back to see Bob and team at the Exchange Hotel Kerang, we look forward to a beautiful meal and catch up after a big day at Ultima.
Good luck to all Tigers today, go and get ‘em Tiges! 🖤💛
