Hay Lions Netball reports – Round 2 vs Murrabit (in Murrabit) – 22/04/2023
A Grade
Murrabit 74 defeated Hay 32
Hay had a solid start against last year’s League premiers. Although Murrabit took the lead, Hay really worked cohesively, showing improvements from the week before. Ellie Jamieson (South Hay Hotel Award) held well in the circle setting up attacking plays, shooting & rebounding well. Emma Johnston (DG Harrison Players Player) defended well against very accurate & experienced Murrabit attackers, holding her defensive position & springing up for rebounds. She was supported well in defence by Katie Howard (Hay Lions Coaches Award) who held her three feet and tried to get front position.
B Grade
Murrabit 56 defeated Hay 33
B grade started off strong going goal for goal with Murrabit in the first quarter and taking the lead. Hay continued to work hard for the rest of the game but Murrabit were able to get a few intercepts and increase the lead after half time. Hannah McGufficke (Tantrum Hair and Beauty Award) worked hard in the circle shooting some great goals, Lucy Shea (Riverina Hotel Award) played her first game in B Grade and showed she is very versatile and Dim Comb (Hay Bowling & Golf Club Award) worked tirelessly in defence.
B Reserve
Hay 33 defeated Murrabit 11
B Res had a hard game in the heat against what seemed to be a younger, inexperienced team than previous years. Hay got off to a good start and had a good lead the whole game. Kylie Brettschneider (IGA Award) ran her usual game, always there in support and ready to assist. Kate Digby (Hannah McGufficke Hairdressing Award) had a solid game sticking tight and turning the ball over, and Emily Armstrong (Players Player) was critical all over the court playing multiple spots.
Under 17’s
Hay 61 def Murrabit 10
This was an exciting win for the 17s team that is growing in skill and confidence each week. In a powerhouse display Emily Caughey (Active Farmers) provided unwavering defence. Sienna Lund (Peter Mullins Building) and Sophie Tapper (Murrumbidgee Realestate) worked well together in the goal ring, moving well and shooting accurately.
Hay finished the game off with a great team effort highlighted by lightning interceptions and rebounds to be comfortable winners.
Under 14’s
Murrabit 18 defeated Hay 14
Under 14s played a close game against Murrabit, having the lead in the first half of the game. Hay played hard through the whole game but unfortunately lost the lead in the 3rd quarter. Awards went to Jess Tapper (Hay Calisthenics Award) for her outstanding performance in goal shooting, Tilly Weeks (Lund Construction Award) for her effort in focusing on her passing and ball work, taking intercepts and bringing in loose balls. Matilda Nisbet (Hay Newsagents Award) had great control in the defence ring and had a strong hold on her attacker.
F Troop
Hay 9 defeated Murrabit 8
A hard fought game was had today, but our little legends got the job done. Once again everyone played their hearts out in the hot weather and stepped it up a notch when they were down to 6 players for the last quarter, backing each other up and supporting each other. Grace Auldist (Active Farmers Award) was like a bulldog in the last line of defence, fighting for the ball, Rhyla Bunyan (Lions Canteen Award) had her best game yet, turning over the ball with her correct arm in defence, and Emma Brown (Lions Canteen Award) was legendary in the centre!
