Ultima v Hay Club Notes:

Football:

U/14.5’s

It was an undermanned start to the boys and girls season but they have plenty of positives and their enthusiasm couldn’t be questioned.  Ollie is a welcomed addition to the side and when we get a few more back into the side we will start to challenge the likes of Hay

U/17.5’s

It was great to see 20 kids line up for the grand final re-match against the always strong Hay outfit.  Hay got the jump on us in the first quarter but to the Roo’s credit, we outscored the Lions over the next three quarters.  We just fell short but look onwards and upwards to next week.  The new faces in Lachy Bull and Noah Drummond have fitted in nicely and the coaches would be happy with the game overall.

Reserves:

The game started with two teams bursting at the seams with numbers which is a great thing for both clubs.  Our boys had a hard-fought win with the scoreboard not showing the evenness of the game, Hay will give some opposition a few headaches this season.  We did hit our straps after blowing the cobwebs out in the first half and with many blokes running around in the twos who are more than capable of playing senior footy, we are in good shape.

Seniors:

It was a new look Ultima who took the field on Saturday and there was much anticipation as Hay has also had a busy off season.  The game did not disappoint and it was a tight contest right up until the final siren.  Our new players got a taste of the competition and all performed well, and along with our stalwarts, it was a very even spread of contributors.

We took our chances in the last quarter and snuck over the line and whilst it’s a bit early to tell, it looks like both clubs have improved from last season.

Netball:

U12s

This week we had 6 girls play their first game of netball alongside our 3 top age players. It was amazing to see so many smiles and laughs on the court. We cannot wait to watch these girls learn and grow throughout the year!

U14s

Super start to the season, with everyone contributing every quarter which was great to see! Thanks to Ivy for playing this week and Mayla on the bench. Plenty of things to work on at training, which will only improve our team game. Well done girls.

U17s

Ultima 42 def Hay 34

Great start to the season with some very promising passages of play.  Everyone contributed to the overall win. Well done girls.

B – Reserve:

Close game all day. Girls did well for first up, we can take a lot of positives out of it and squash them next time.

Not a bad start to the season, we worked through a few things we had been working on. A solid effort in the second half, really loved our talk and team commitment.

It was really solid, consistent team effort from the girls to kick off the season.  Every player contributed to the game in a big way and their efforts were rewarded with a great win.

Round 2 preview:

This week we welcome Wandella FNC to the Ultima Rec Reserve for our Anzac round clash.  Both clubs hope to build this into a regular slot on the fixture and we look forward to a great contest in all grades today.

After the game is our much-loved rotating dinner, so start cooking up a feast and if you couldn’t make it, be sure to call into the Ultima Hotel for a bevvy on the way home.
