Football
Our 4ths were impressive throughout each quarter and finished with a strong score to secure a win
for the first game of the 2023 season the day. Charlie Toohey set the bar high early for the father
son challenge booting home 6 Majors and finish best on ground. Parker Bray and Xavier Murray
were super all across the ground whilst Jed McDonald and Jobe Hein were into the game right from
the start.
Our 3rds have been hard at it all summer putting in the km’s on the training track under new
coaches Brayden Turvey and Toby Gray. Unfortunately, it didn’t turn out the way they would have
hoped for their first match. Despite going down, there were some great performances from Riley
Carse and Sam Copland though the midfield and the big guys in Chase Coulter and Clancy Leahy
were strong throughout the whole match.
Our Reserves were impressive in celebrating Simon Morton’s 500th career game. Juzzy McConell was back with a classy domination across the field. Dave Toohey took on son Charlie’s challenge and
kicked one more to finish with 7 Goals. Morto knocked up getting kicks through the middle and Mick
Zambelli impressed across half forward.
The senior team took to the field with a vastly different team than 2022. The damage was done in
the first quarter and we were unable to overcome that deficit as the rain set in for the day. Captain,
Ben Gillingham was gallant all day in testing conditions for a big man. There were a number of key
recruits that provided highlights throughout the day. Damien Cupido put his claim to mark of the
year in the 3rd quarter and provided a strong option up forward and finished with 6 goals. Luke
Murphy and Zac Hard across half back were also strong in their first game for the club.
This week we host Hay who will also be chasing their first win for the season. A great contest it will
be I am sure.

Our under 14’s kicked off the day in sensational fashion with a huge win, it is great to see the girls stepping up from under 12’s and slotting in beautifully. Awards went to Ella Henry (Copland salt $5), Ivy Shea (Harvey/Laursen $10) and Georgia Carse (Chips).
The 17’s had a really close battle with Moulamein, they won the first half although Moulamein came out the stronger in the second half to snatch the win away. Lots to be happy with after such a good first half. Awards to Olivia Ferguson (AB Building $5), Belle Morton (Morrow socks) and Summah Turner (Chips).
It was a new look B res team who took to the court and we welcome a couple of new faces to the club with Tori and Sam both starting on court. The game was low scoring and the girls found themselves down for most of the match but had an excellent final quarter to sneak the win. Sara McNeil (Scissors hair) was dynamite in defence especially in the last quarter while we are glad to see Taylah Collier (Terry White) back home in the blue dress and she played was a solid performer in centre.
A grade was a close match throughout but the girls just didn’t quite have the connection with each other that we have come to expect from our A grade and couldn’t quite get the conversion onto the score board. Moulamein took better advantage of their opportunities, the girls will be keen to get another go at getting a win on the board this week. Grace Gillingham came out with some swish swish shooting to take home best on (Rulcifys) with Ashea Bujdoso taking home the Stanton family most determined $31. This award is a special award the Stanton family are donating this year in memory of Darby who wore number 31 and always showed great determination whenever he wore the Murrabit uniform. The award will be rotated through our senior grades and awarded to the most determined player, not necessarily the best player. We thank the Stanton family and all our award sponsors for the 2023 season. Other sponsors include, Pam Lingenberg, Terry White Chemmart, Scissors hair, Solid Collective, Little Shoe Shop, The Tailored Peach, Rulcifys, Morrow family, Harvey/Laursen families, AB Building, Copland Salt.
After the game we have our last ball standing. Tickets are $50 each, see Tyson or Max to purchase yours, got to be in it to win it!
Upcoming social functions to note in the diary include Bogan Bingo on 6th May after Ultima and the annual MFNC ball on June 3rd after Wandella at home.
