Under 12 - What a start! With 5 new young players, the 12s played like a superstar team. Strong linking between defence and attack & enthusiastic effort made all the difference. Our award winners: Cienna (Tiff award) was awesome with her shoulder passing and Blair (Janelle’ earring award) demonstrated that height doesn’t matter if you stay focused and determined.
Under 14.5 Football:
Welcome back to another football season. Today we play last years premiers, Wandella. We welcomed some new players Mitch, came and Judy who all played their part in a good win.. we moved the ball really well resulting in a great first up win. A very even team effort all day resulting in a big win, well done boys!

Under 14s - Although the score board did not go our way, the girls showed tremendous heart, with tips and good pieces of play all over the court. The little team shows great potential, even with 3 under 12s stepping on court for us. Best on went to Bella Higgs - donated by Mel Wishart speech pathology and coaches award went to Georgie Neil, her very first game of netball, where you would never have guessed she’s never played before with her performance donated by the coaches.
Under 17.5

The Under 17s girls put up a good fight against a strong wandella team. With some of our team on holidays it gave the under 14s & U12s an opportunity to step up. A very special mention to Evie Mackenzie, Briney Ferris and Abbey Wishart who all played fantastic games for us. Awards went to Miley Anset (Modra Family Award) and Tia Mackenzie (
B Reserve were keen to show Wandella their gains made over pre-season, since their last meeting in 2022, that they are team to beat this season. After a goal-for-goal first quarter B Res found their groove, despite the constant rainfall. Our best on court, Leeza Wishart demonstrated resounding resilience, despite a mid-quarter ankle twinge, in amongst many intercepts and touches throughout the game. Our second best on court, Morgan Shields showed an effortlessness in her shooting, and fantastic teamwork shown between herself and her fellow shooters, Mandy Dee and Samantha Smith. The rain could not dampen these Tigers’ spirit; such great communication, teamwork, turnovers and effort demonstrated by all B Reserve players. This week provided opportunities for Amber Walkington, to fill in for Alisha Carmichael, who had the opportunity to step up into B Grade. Congratulations, B Res Tiges, money well spent!
Reserves:
Tough conditions and a quick Wandella outfit saw a loss for the Reserves side on Saturday. Clint Edge and Josh Berryman fought hard all day in the wet weather, but we found it hard to hit the score board. Not a great start to the season but we are ready to knuckle down and fight hard for the win. Another tough battle again this week against Moulamein but the 2’s are ready to dig deep and score the 4 points. Up and about, go tiges!
Goals: P. Wishart (1), T. McIntosh (1), S. Randall (1)
Bests: J. Berryman, C. Edge, J. McMahon
B Grade - Yay! Season 2023 is finally here! After a huge pre-season we were keen to get going however the weather was not ideal. A cold and wet day had us a little rattled. B grade had a poor first quarter which impacted us all game, we just couldn’t score off opportunities. We are a new team and keen to do well and I have no doubt as the year goes on that we will be up there. We went down by 1. Alisha Carmichael came on and gave us all we needed, she was a borrowed player from B res as we had a few away so thanks heaps Leesh. Earned herself the award and Kara Farrell worked hard all day in defence to earn the second honour.
A grade were a little messy, bit frustrated and played well under our usual standard but still got the win easily. We will regroup this week and come back firing. We have a job to do this year and are determined to deliver to our Yellow and Black faithful. Hoping some nicer weather this week and our home court will lift us back up to the level we want to play. We won by 10 goals. Our newest recruit Asela Finch was an absolute star for us and Erin Delahunty was impossible to beat despite Wandella’s efforts. Bring on round 2.
Seniors:
Great win to start the year boys! In tough conditions our boys battled hard to get the 4 points. The team had a long season ahead but a win in Round 1 is a great way to start. We have another big challenge today against Moulamein but we are sure the boys are up to it!
Goals: T. Parker (2), J. Cameron (1), M. Neiwand (1), S. Haffenden (1), J. Featherby (1), J Walters (1)
Tiger News:
This week against Moulamein, the whole club will be honouring life member, Bruce Bennett. Bruce sadly passed in January, however, we thought honouring Bruce during our matches against Moulamein seemed fitting as the Bennetts are Moulamein members. Brucey, as he was affectionately known around the club, was a true Macorna legend, still providing the best cut oranges up until our last game in the 2022 season. Bruce ensured every football player would receive an orange at half time, heading into the club rooms to pat the players on the back and telling them ‘it’s not over until the final siren’ (even if we were 100 points down). Bruce’s history with Macorna goes back over many years where he played right into the 90’s, his love for our club ran deep as did our love for Bruce. Our sincerest condolences to the Bennett family, Bruce certainly won’t be forgotten at Tigerland. We hope you are cheering us on this year Bruce. All our love, the Tiger family.
Tonight after our game we are hosting ‘Tiggie Talk’, an opportunity for all new players and members to get to know our club and members, a casserole dinner and a great night to be had. We hope everyone sticks around to welcome our new members!
Speaking of membership, it’s not too late to sign up as a social member! $50 is all it takes and you will go into our special members weekly draw! Talk to Debbie or Tenielle to find out how to sign up!
This week you will notice something new on our jumpers, we welcome Toby Newnham from Newnham Livestock as a major sponsor. We take a lot of pride in our jumpers and are excited to have Toby come on board with us.
A big thank you to all sponsors who have come on board with us in 2023, we will be shining a light on sponsors in each record so please keep an eye out and if you see them around our club, give them a big thank you! Without sponsors, we wouldn’t be able to run the club.
Good luck to all Tigers today! Go out and show Moulamein what we’re made of! And enjoy our first home game of the 2023 season! Up the tiges!
