Wandella FNC Club Notes Round 1 2023

Hello everyone and welcome to season 2023 @ Bomberland!

After what feels like only a couple of weeks we are back into the action once again for another year, kicking off our campaign against Macorna at home. Our lone premiership side of 2023, the Baby Bombers footballers, will kick off their premiership defence (and the dew off the grass) this morning while our other sides look to build on some impressive 2022 development and go deeper into finals!

Football & Netball

There is an air of consistency across the leadership of the senior football & netball sides with all coaches returning their posts for another go around this year (with one sneaky promotion of an enthusiastic magnet mover to an official coaching role…).

Some changes have occurred in the junior grades with some new (& older) faces bravely stepping into the roles of guiding our young stars to premiership glory.

Welcome to Macey Bott who in addition to joining the playing ranks, has also joined the coaching ranks to lead our Under 14’s netballers. Wonderful to see a new face stepping straight into a leadership role, good luck Macey!

Club legend (and unofficial president) Kellie Crellin has returned to the coaching ranks for the Under 17’s netballers, the girls are very lucky to have someone of Kellie’s experience leading them and I’m sure they will enjoy a successful year!

We farewell our reigning Under 14’s football premiership coach in Chum Chamberlain who has stepped back from advising our young players and has now entered the full-time afternoon gig of advising/criticising our senior players loudly from The Hangar. We all congratulate Chum on his successful tenure as coach and are sure he will excel in his new role! In place of Chum, welcome the resident Reserve football cult figure Russell Waddingham in the role! Russell enjoys great love from his teammates and is sure to be loved just as much by his new Under 14’s charges, good luck for the season Russ and co!

Backing up from 2022 as leader of the Under 17’s footballers is the GRFL’s best dressed coach, Shannon ‘Nugget’ Burton! Nug has already proved himself a great junior coach, the 17s boys showed great growth under his leadership last year and finished off the season very strongly. Here is hoping they can continue the improvement this year!

Finally, a big thank you to the leaders of our future generations at Bomberland, Emilie Lancaster (Net Set Go) and Michael Rowe/Daniel Higgs (Auskick). It’s no small task to lead the youngest of our charges each week but I’m sure they are up to the task and our youngsters will be set up for long careers at Wandella! Rowey might even find his Auskick charges more obedient than his Midday Magic Warriors…

Social Club

Round 1 sees us kick off the social season with an Outdoor (pending weather) Movie Night. Kicking off at 7:30pm will be all time classic Shrek. An upgrade on 2022’s showing of Frozen 2 if you ask me…

Nic Treacy and her kitchen crew will be spinning out ‘Street Food’ options for everyone to snack on while watching the movie. Hope to see everyone there.

Round 3 after Murrabit will see us holding our Player Calcutta Auction & Cow Pat Lotto. Hope everyone remembers to bring their wallets!
