Round 1 Preview:
Here we are ready to go for another season, the club has been active over the off season with yet another successful Murrabit Cod Challenge in March. A huge thanks must go to all members and supporters who make this event possible and raise money for our club. You will notice a slight change to the senior playing jumper this year with Max Wilson Tyres increasing their sponsorship of the club becoming a jumper sponsor also. Great work Tyler and the crew there in Kerang.
Michael O’Toole has taken control of the 2023 senior playing group and with the assistance of Football Operations Manager Josh Bray, have been actively recruiting over the break. We welcome a number of new faces to the club and congratulate Ben Gillingham and Nathan O’Toole on being named our Captains for 2023. Tom Copland was handed the reins for the preseason running sets and succeeded in improving the base fitness levels for 2023.
Nick Hein will again coach the Reserves in an attempt to replicate the success of 2022. There have been several retirements over the break. However, we all know that it takes a few years or retirements to actually become retired. Numbers on the training track has been a real focus for the playing group throughout the pre-season so as a group we should see the benefits of this come Saturday.
Our U17’s see Brayden Turvey and Toby Gray take on the dual coaching role. It’s great to see young talent taking on such roles within the club to develop the future of the club. We have seen many of these boys at the senior training throughout the preseason and their improvement has been noticeable.
U14 Coach Peter McDonald has lost some height form 2022, despite this, the numbers are still strong for these boys. Look for a running styled game plan this season.

Over on the netball court we see a few new faces within the coaching ranks. Our under 12's will again be led by Angela Morton while Jess Bray is returning to lead the under 14's. Carly Ettershank will be returning to the coaching ranks to take on the under 17's. Junior numbers are very strong and we know all three teams will be in great hands under these coaches this year. We can't wait to see the girls develop and improve their netball this year.
Our senior numbers have been a bit lower than previous years after losing a few players for various reasons however we have several juniors ready to step up and a few new and returning faces throughout the grades. The A grade team will be coached by Kalinda Stanton and Kayla Casey and the girls will be very keen to defend their 2022 premiership. They have retained 5 of the 7 grand finalist team members, then managed to add a couple of handy inclusions so far which should keep the A grade in the finals hunt this year.
In the B grade we see Mary Yates-Ward and Grace Gillingham team up to coach and in the B res we have Erica Cummins and Lisa Morrow in charge. Both teams will be keen to make up for their grand final losses last year and will be looking to build connections with their new team mates this year. We look forward to a competitive and social year on and off the court.
We wish all teams all the best for the upcoming season.
