It was the perfect Autumn day last week for our first game of the year against Tooleybuc Manangatang. The action on the court and field did not disappoint with some great matches to watch.
Big thank you to all the volunteers who assisted last week. It is much appreciated.
Thanks also to Chon Beasy for organizing the tailgate party last Saturday night. It was a fantastic event with members of all ages having fun. There were some great bull riders and great to see everyone getting into the spirit of the western theme.
Today we venture to Lalbert to take on the Mallee Eagles.
To last week’s results:
Netball
It was the first time on a netball court for many of our U12 players and they put up a good showing but went down in the end 6-15. They all had fun and look forward to running out again this week. The U14 side were very accomplished in their strong win over the Saints. The U16 side had their first game together and tried very hard but couldn’t get over the line. They will look to bounce back this week against the Eagles. The U18s were dominant in their game on Saturday having a comprehensive win. Looks like the girls will be in for a good year. All of our senior sides started the year off well with a win against the Saints. Its been a long pre season and was great to get an early win on the board. Mallee Eagles are always tough opponents on the court so should be some entertaining games today.
Football
The U12 side under new coaches Lee Brown and Joel Lloyd started the year off very impressively. The run and handball was great to watch. Well done to all the young Swans who played their first games off football last week. It was a great team effort!- The U14.5 side came up against possibly the benchmark of the competition. The boys tried very hard but were no match in the end. They will keep improving and will look at a good showing against the Eagles today. Best players were the captain Lane Cardenas, Cody McIntyre, Sam Scott, new player to the club Kaedan Purcell and Harry Hunter. The colts were very impressive in their game against the Saints. The boys have been training hard and it showed on Saturday. Best players were Lleyton Purcell (new player), Jye Hogan (new player), Darcy Uebergang, Riley McRae, Shannon Polglase and Seamus Doherty. The reserves started their year off in fine style as well with a win over the Saints. Coaches Rip Arentz and Charlie Hollingworth were happy with the win and will look to further improve today. Best players Matt Batternally, Brenton Halligan, Trevor Firebrace, Ben Pearse, Matt Hayward and Jude Seymour. The senior side were disappointed in their showing last Saturday against the Saints. They have had a hard week on the track and will look for a much better showing against the Eagles today. Best players – Matt Wade, Toby Thoolen, Brandon Houlihan, Adam Manning and Xavier Moloney.
Good luck to all Swans today!
