The season kicked off with a home game against Koondrook Barham and it was a great day for all involved. A couple of losses in our netball with some tough games on the court in consistent rain.  

Whilst the weather could have turned the crowd away, our Demon supporters were out in droves, with the netball courts lined with supporters all day and the pavilion full to the brim all day watching the football. Thank you to all those that braved the rainy day and supported our players.

Saturday night we ran our Rusty Roulette, thank you to Rod Duffy for getting the old truck out again, thanks to the amazing crowd that filled the rooms post-game for meals and awards. Janine Daniels was the lucky winner of $1000 after the truck ran dry at her marker behind the southern goals.

This week at Lake Boga we are looking to add more wins to our football grades after they all got off to a good start and we keen to see if our netballers can add to the wins tally along with the A-Graders who were successful last weekend.

FOOTBALL RESULTS

Seniors:

NNWU 18.19-132 defeated Koondrook Barham 2.6-18

The seniors followed in from the great results earlier in the day putting together a big win. Best player selection was difficult as so many played their role for the team. Co-coaches Nick O’Neill and Corey Daniels led the way, but a few young fellas really stood out in front of goal with Charlie Bolton kicking 6 and young recruit Liam White kicking 5.

Reserves:

NNWU 15.11-101 defeated Koondrook Barham 2.8-20

The reserves got their season off to a great start with a good win in tough conditions. A spread of experience and youth helped the boys to a 81 point win.

The boys welcome Royce Free to the club, and he looked to have brought his own footy in round 1, this week his brother Alex joins the twos, welcome to them both and their families.

Colts:

NNWU 8.6-54 defeated Koondrook Barham 5.8-38

Colts had a tougher game but the result still went in favour of the Dee’s and a strong pre-season from the lads probably helped them run the game out better than their opposition.

Under 14.5:

NNWU 7.7-49 defeated Koondrook Barham 7.6-48

The Under 14.5’s came out on top in what was the closest result of the day, narrowly winning by just a single point. Brady Davidson has taken great tutelage from Matt Curran and we thank him for his guidance of our 14.5s.

NNWU vs Woorinen

Our youngest footballers kicked off the day before the rain really got going. The young faces showed both plenty of nerves and excitement pre game but they put forward a great team game and plenty of smiles post game despite not singing the song. Thanks to Riley Daniels, Dom Gallo and Ben Shadbolt for leading our young group in 2023.
