Round 2 – Kerang Football Netball Club

Football

Round One Wrap Up…

Seniors – Kerang 102 def Tooleybuc Manangatang 27

Isn’t it great to have football back for 2023.  Last Saturday we opened proceedings with a trip to Tooleybuc.  The Saints looked to have recruited well and the boys looked forward to a tough contest.  The game started in exactly that fashion, with a ferocious attack on the footy from both sides in difficult conditions with the rain tumbling down.  We held a slender 2-point lead at quarter time.  After the break, the boys started to get a bit of control, but several misses saw a 2 – 5 quarter and a 13-point lead.  Whatever the boys did at halftime certainly worked a treat with a 9 goal to 1 third quarter to blow the margin out.  Another couple in the final term saw a 75-point win at the final siren.  Some sore and tired boys to end the day.

Best Players – Sean Hunter, Marty Kelly, Jesse Clark, Ryan Gillingham, Tyson Clingan and Nick Lang in a great debut for the club.

Today we welcome the Mallee Eagles as we get to unfurl the Premiership Flag.  Looking forward to a big crowd and hopefully another 4 points for the Blueboys.

Reserves – Kerang 95 def Tooleybuc Manangatang 13

Welcome back to 2023. The Magoos started off with a great win in slippery conditions to begin the year off with a BANG!!!  Newly appointed captain Jotham Higgs was superb all day to win the Autopro towel which he appreciated to rub off his muddy toned body. Cody Makeham up from the thirds was great all day as well to win the McKnight concreting award. Nick Murray also up from the Juniors won the Andy Gray plumbing award. The two young boys will certainly be a great addition to the reserves this year if they keep having a crack, great start boys. Jonah McKnight had a ripping game also after a slowish start he really played an excellent game running hard and not wasting the ball. Logan Tuohey won the Coaches award also never wasting a possession. Overall, a pleasing effort to start the year off boys. PS - don’t forget train hard, play harder and longer!!!!!!!!! Also welcome to all the new fellas to the club and hope you all enjoy your fellow teammates. Hope your injury isn’t too bad dribs and you’re back on the track soon!!!!!

With the clouds forecast over Tooleybuc this got the jump on us in the first and second, not allowing us to play our style of football.  We showed what we were capable of throughout the third and fourth quarters with Flynn battling all day.  Cameron was our saviour down back with the general, Nick Oliver.

Awards: Betta Electrical Award – DJ, Pizza Kitchen Award – Hugh, KJs Outdoor & Marine Award – Pickle, Coaches Award – Flynn, Sportspower Award – Cameron, Chocolate Award – Hugh A, 1% Award – Cooper.

A strong team effort to start the season off. Chloe, Katelyn, and Zoe were fantastic in defence, turning the ball over countless times. Liv and Tahni feed the goalies well and KB and Courtney moved and shot beautifully. Well done girls – a great start to the season. All your hard work over preseason is certainly paying off.

Awards: Cobram Estate Award - Tahni Clark, Royal Hotel Award- Chloe Adams

A Res - Kerang 38 def Tooleybuc Manangatang 33

Was great to see all the girls out on the court after a great preseason. Lots of new combinations and new players to the team. The girls did a great job – the score doesn’t reflect how good the game was.

Awards: Legend Apparel Award – Annie Perryman, Sportspower Award – Lily Velleley.

Under 16’s - Kerang 52 def Tooleybuc Manangatang 45

The girls played really well, especially for their first game. We mixed up positions every quarter and everyone showed how versatile they are. We have lots to work on but can already see so much improvement.

Under 12’s - Kerang 5 def by Tooleybuc Manangatang 20

It was a hard fought first game for our U12s team. All girls playing hard and learning new positions, and how to play together as a team. Best on court for us today was Sam Adams who led our defence with multiple intercepts and turn overs.

Awards: Betta Electrical Award – Marli Doyle, Chino’s Award – Taneisha Thamm, Pizza Kitchen Award – Tahlia Rumbold, Team Mangers Award – Sam Adams.

With a successful start to the season, we are looking forward to hosting Mallee Eagles at home today for Round 2!
