Round 6 highlights

Following on from A Grade’s promising recent form, our B Grade netballers continued their own improvement last week with an impressive win over Ultima 39-26. With the teams evenly positioned at 3rd & 4th on the ladder going into the match it was a chance for our girls to solidfy their position in the top 4. The girls came out all guns blazing from the first whistle, creating many turnovers and capitalising on them. Coach Ola was very happy with the girls for working exceptionally well as a team and backing each other up constantly to get an important win. Young guns Elly Spencer & Tulsi Jenkins were the named the best players. Elly dominating around the ring with deflections & rebounds while Tulsi was a constant presence through the midcourt applying defensive pressure and generating lots of Ultima turnovers. The girls were able to get out to a big lead and finish off the game strong.

From the football field came another highlight that even the most veteran Wandella spectators might struggle to recall seeing very often. Ryan Lancaster, approaching his 400th game, must’ve whispered in the right ear at the ¾ time huddle as he nabbed himself a spot at full forward for the last quarter of our match with Ultima. Coach Logan finally removed himself from Scratcha’s space in the 50 and after several attempts the boys found the veteran’s chest on the lead. The Ultima boys may have sensed the occasion and had no defenders on the line as the wily veteran’s forward spinning flat punt wobbled it’s way through. Doesn’t matter how you do it six points is six points, congrats Scratch!!

Social Club update

Despite our main event of the night being pushed back a couple of weeks, thanks to everyone who stuck around to enjoy the festivities. A games night and impromptu Beer Pong tournament were a great hit. Congratulations to eventual champions Brock & Tayla for sneaking past the previously dominant duo of Logan & Twiggy. Commiserations to Aussie who must’ve eaten a bad steak earlier in the night…

This week is our Ladies Day function with all proceeds going to Breast Cancer Awareness. Hope all the Ladies have a fantastic day and enjoy the entertainment planned for the evening! Hope the footballers enjoy running the canteen for the day while the ladies take a well-deserved break!

Good luck to all teams taking on Quamby this week!

GO BOMBERS!!
