Football
Our last trip to Quambatook was met with mixed results. Quamby have tried hard over the years to maintain their teams but as we know too well, without junior players coming through the ranks the task of fielding a team each week becomes increasingly difficult. We are fortunate to have the means to promote our junior players up into the senior grades. Our reserves were once again challenged for numbers. However, this creates opportunity, Kye McKerrow and Chase Coulter played their first game in the Reserves. Now I’m not sure who got to wear the Coulter #26 jumper as usually there is a jumper exchange after Chase has finished his game in the 3rds.. I suspect Cam may be happy to hand down the number 26. A great experience Father/Son playing their first game together! Nugget was back in the Blue and was best on ground
Award Winners: Ryleigh Wilkinson (Greg Dickson), Simon Kelly (Car Wash), Rhys Neville (Mawson’s Beanie)
Our seniors as in previous weeks were competitive early but faded. They have been bolstered by the inclusion of Tom Copland, despite his prognosis in 2021, has gained confidence in his body and continues to grow and contribute through the middle of the ground. Nathan O’Toole through the mid and Marc O’Neill across half back once again had plenty of the ball. Darcy Grant was super impressive with his defensive pressure up forward and Tom Hetherington was able to finish with 4 goals.
Award Winners: Ben Gillingham (Royal Hotel), Nathan Morrow (Mystic Park Hotel).
Netball
The under 12’s started the day and with many of the regular older girls unavailable this week we saw a new bunch of netballers take the court for the first time and they had a great time, it is great to see some of the younger girls finally getting to have a crack on a Saturday after they have been training regularly, awards to Eve Murray and Harper Bujdoso (Chips), Pippy & Lyla Morton, Elada Jaques, Imi Collier, Maddi Keath (McDonalds) and Charlotte Keath (Coaches award).
The A grade kicked off the day with an early start in what will likely be a finals preview and the game did not disappoint, going down to the wire. Kayla Casey (Solid Collective) was outstanding in defence, gaining turnovers at crucial moments and Grace Gilingham (TWCM) stepped up and shot beautifully to keep up the scoreboard pressure. Awesome 1 goal win girls.
The B grade kept up the winning streak and we saw another family connection on court together with Erin Hein and Jess Bray on court together for perhaps the first time ever or maybe it’s just in a while? Jess (Little shoe shop) showed no ill effects from her week off and had fast drives to circle edge to feed into Jo Danson (Scissors) who, in her second game for the day continued the excellent form being a strong option in the ring.
B res rounded out the day with a big win with Teish Nethercote (Pam’s award) dominating under the post shooting the majority of the score. Mila Bray (Little shoe shop) also stepped up for a full game in the absence of any under 17 grade and she picked up a truckload of intercepts and rebounds then showed great transition play to push the ball back into attack.
Great day girls although a bit sad it will be the last time we get to play at Quamby, we wish the club all the best as they celebrate their proud club in their final year.
