Few things in the world are more powerful than a positive push. A smile. A world of optimism and hope. A 'you can do it’ when things are tough like the road trip to Nullawil and the Simply Stunning Swans win at the Maroons’ home ground.

Football

Seniors

This week we are at Nullawil in what many consider a preview to the 2022 grand final Moulamein will be out to prove that they are not the easy beats they once were and given that we should have a full complement of players we look to serve it up to Nullawil in the game of the year so far.

As the saying goes a good big man will always be a good small man and we have one of the best Ruckman currently in the league. Heath Maloney is a figurehead at Moulamein and all the players look to Heath to provide leadership and inspiration to all, a task he does in spades.

One wonders if it is possible that Moulamein is able to beat Nullawil at Nullawil the feat I imagine hasn’t been done for years, well today the Swans will look to bring the run to an end. Imagine Josh soaring like an eagle, Beau transforming the backline into a well-oiled machine. Then you have the age and experience of Nathan Buckley and Michael Morson who frequently pop up and kick bags of goals. What about the father and son combination of Nick and Ely Miller, son to father, the goal can be a real team lifter. Given that Moulamein has plenty of other talents (too many to name here) we expect them to run with Nullawil all day and be victorious in the end.

Moulamein does not consider this to be a walkover however we shall be endeavouring to provide Nullawil with a simply fantastic game of football and one wonders whether we will walk away with the belief that the impossible is possible. I remember an old coach saying you can’t kick the ball if you don’t have it therefore Moulamein needs to get plenty of the ball and make the opposition chase them which is something I suspect Nullawil has not had to do and I don’t think they are fit enough to run the full hundred minutes of football which Moulamein will make them do.

The roving reporter selects Moulamein to win in a tight encounter by eight points.

Last week we travel to Hay and in what was always going to be a tough encounter Moulamein overcome the style of Hay to record a fabulous victory. Moulamein played well for three and a bit quarters and for whatever reason they seem to slacken off and let the opposition in for a few cheap goals and this happens every week there seems to be a distinct lack of mental awareness of what’s going on around them something we need to fix.

It is a pity that we cannot get together to train together to play together to be the best side in the competition this is something we will work around and eventually it will all come together and the premiership flag will fly high at the MCG once again.

I was talking to Andrew Silvia and he expects to be back in late July just in time to gain some fitness for the finals campaign Andrew and Josh form a great combination along with Luke and a few others we have the ability to kick a lot of goals.

However, in the Hay match, I was very impressed with quite a few players who are not the big-name players of the Moulamein football club these are the people that almost provide the backbone of any club and are players who perform week in and week out and a credit to the club. We did play well and we should be reasonably happy with the performance even with some of the lapses in concentration.

Moulamein is striving to excel and given what has transpired this season we are like the Swans of old slowly building up to eventually become Super Swans capable of anything.

Moulamein is a side that can play football at its highest level and given that we will need to be at our best today we should ensure that we go into the game with a positive frame of mind and a winning frame of mind.

Reserves

The reserves played well against the side that is tipped to play in the finals in 2022. Whilst I was oscillating between the football and the netball I did see enough however to say that Moulamein was not disgraced and at times play very well. I am positive with a little more training in togetherness the reserves can ensure that they play in the finals in 2022. There is a lot of talent in the side and I expect some of them to be pushing for senior selection to put the pressure on the incumbents in the seniors. Well done boys great effort and I am sure that this week you can defeat Nullawil and pathe the way for the seniors to win as well. Keep on keeping on boys and you know what’s around the corner well I’m not telling so you will have to look.

Under 17.5

In the under 17.5 football we were a little short and Hay led us a couple of great players who contributed very well. Not the ideal way to start a day but these things happen and Hay has always had strong juniors. All players gave everything and from what I saw the endeavour the courage and the resilience never faulted well done to the under 17.5 footballers.

Under 14.5

In the under 14.5 football we were no match for the taller and more talented Hay, we have that never give up attitude which unfortunately today we were unable to match Hay in any department. Whilst Hay have talented juniors so do Moulamein and do not be surprised to see the under 14. 5 playing in finals very soon. Whilst I can never see entire games of football or netball I did see a lot of this game and I can promise you that we never gave up.

Netball

A Grade

in the A Grade netball, a funny thing happened on the way to the circus the lady from Hay late into the last quarter as the game was getting closer and closer turned off the scoreboard it did amuse this old reporter.

In the A grade the coach said well done girls great effort, a whole new side today did a lot of adjusting but fabulous effort. I was particularly impressed with Emily Fasham’s goal shooting must have been a 95% tile a percentage even the Australian diamonds struggle to achieve well done. Overall it was a great game and if we can obtain a little more consistency we will be up there with the best of them and playing finals is a distinct possibility. Keep up the determination and effort and you will make Moulamein proud. If you can get over what’s the girls some of the skills are amazing and anyone they can shoot the ball that well, it is a sight to behold.

Score: Moulamein 42 defeated by Hay 51

Best on the court: Emily Fasham, Rhiann O’Meara, Eboni Bennett, Ally-Mae Buckley

B Grade

In the B grade I have never seen Moulamein play any better they were scintillating all around the court we witnessed some superb shooting from Penny O’Farrell and Megan Starick, Courtney giving us drive through the centre with Madison and Janae chiming in all over the court we were a superb team today well-done girls. Even the coach was impressed and said ”great win today girls our hard work is starting to pay off “this was highlighted by the never give up attitude of all players.

Score: Moulamein 60 defeated Hay 18

Best on the court: BOC: Penny O'Farrell, Megan Starick, Madison Houlihan, Janae Winzar

B Reserve

In the B reserve whilst we didn’t win the game we were very competitive and we will only get better as the season progresses as we are starting to become a formidable combination. A terrific teamwork effort by all resulted in what I shall call a narrow loss as we did miss some goals but we can overcome that with some goal shooting practice training and become like other goal shooters that we have almost perfect. I shall endeavour to watch more B reserve however at times this is not possible, unfortunately. The coach was also impressed and said brilliant passages are play and some good midcourt play as well.

Score: Moulamein 26 defeated by Hay 43

BOC:    Laura Wilson, Sharni Prentice, Jess Gilmour, Meganne Bath

Under 14

In the under 14 in a close game the mighty girls of Moulamein were victorious. This team is starting to become a formidable combination which all goes well for the upcoming senior grade teams assuming that they all remain in Moulamein and hopefully they do as we need brilliant netballers and these girls form the base of such teams. It is always tough trying to get scores in these games as most do not have scoreboards attached and I get a bit annoyed as all the comments I get are what are the under 14.5 scores and what are the F Troop scores people are interested scorers if you could put the scoreboard up we could report and a lot of these I have to say there is no scoreboard.

Back to the game, we were magnificent and I have seen some goal shooting here that would rival the upper grades. Well done on Saturday you girls you are legends.

The coach said “great hard-fought game today, girls super proud of all your efforts. Well done on the win”

Score: Moulamein 22 defeated Hay 19

BOC: Mia Bennett, Skye Prentice, Chloe Wilson, Matilda Burbury, Summer Star, Sophie Bennett, Tarlie Ewart

F Troop (under 12)

Whilst I do not have the scores for F Troop it was a close game apparently and we interacted with Hay to allow them some additional playtime.

The coach said “Close game today in f troop. Well done to all the girls. Lots of intercepts and strong passages of play up and down the court. Really proud of all your efforts, especially running out 6 x 10 minute quarters to accommodate Hay. Thanks, girls”

Score: unknown

BOC: Mila Gray, Tarlia McGlashan, Breeze Starr, Makenna Hull, Almay McKenzie, Paige Patten, Jazmym Worboyes, Harper Trelor, Ebony Patten

I urge all people who enjoy netball to come along and watch as I am sure the netballers would appreciate your support, cheering and general enthusiasm whilst watching the games is appreciated.

Hot Dog

The hotdog rating for the week was 9.3.

Whilst the roles were not the best or buttered they were adequate and the hotdog was lovely therefore 9.3 ratings are well deserved. We have a rival maybe.
