Hay Lions Netball reports
Round 6 vs Moulamein (in Hay) – 22/05/2022
A Grade
Hay 51 defeated Moulamein 42
The Hay girls had a brilliant win against Moulamein, putting set plays practiced at training into action from the first centre pass. Del Crighton (Ian Bunyan Players Player) provided stability through the centre court, with good feeder passes in attack & plenty of touches & intercepts in defence. Ruby Cattanach (South Hay Hotel) moved well in the goal circle with Ellie Jamieson (Jane Griffith’s Netball Player of the Day for her leadership & guidance with the team, setting up play & goal shotting) & gave strong passes to work herself closer for goal shooting. The girls are gelling as a team, and after some hard oppositions and working hard at training, starting to build confidence & understanding of where their team mates are on court & where the ball or passes should be.
B Grade
Moulamein 60 defeated Hay 18
This was a tough game for the girls. We worked hard and started the game off even, this soon turned and unfortunately the girls were out played by a better side. At 3 quarter time the girls reflected, made some position changes and this ended up being our best quarter meeting our goals we set. Hannah Mcgufficke (Hay Bowling and Golf Club Best on Court) worked hard in the circle and shot well in the first half, she went down and defended the second half of the game and got a lot of rebounds making the shooters work hard. Gemma Tassell (Tantrum Hair and Beauty Players Player) showed her ability to pick off intercepts and get plenty of touches in the ring, turning the ball over many times.
B Reserve
Hay 43 defeated Moulamein 26
What a game for B Reserve, another win for the season and the girls are having a lot of fun as a team. The mid-court worked well together, with Centre, Emily Armstrong (Tantrum Hair & Beauty Award) providing constant support down the court and instrumental in getting the ball to the shooters. Sarah Bunyan (Players Player & IGA Umpires Award) was a star on the shooting front and Mardi Davis-Flack (Players Player) had a strong game in defence.
Under 17’s
Moulamein don’t have a 17’s team.
Under 14’s
Moulamein 22 defeated Hay 19
Hay commanded a solid lead at the first break, but Moulamein took control in the second quarter. Emily Caughey (Hay Newsagency Award) helped create opportunities for the comeback by turning the ball over in defence and Jess Tapper (Lions Canteen Voucher) was impressively quick to pick up any loose balls, however Hay wasn’t quite able to close the gap. Sienna Lund (Hay Calisthenics Award) showed great leadership and determination in attack, shooting well and guiding the younger players that stepped up for the game.
F Troop
A close and exciting game, where both teams showed great netball skills. Grace Auldist (Active Farmers Award) led play through the centre, Charlie Clarke (Lions Canteen Award) was instrumental on the wing, and Hannah Jamieson (Two Billy Buttons Award) and Prue Rutledge (Lions Canteen Voucher sponsored by Lani Houston) were effective in both defence and shooting. Big thanks to Katie Howard for coaching and umpiring both 12s games. Our club is lucky to have such amazing volunteers!
