Club Notes
& Team Lists

Moulamein V Hay at Hay is a road trip that is a challenge for some not the Moulamein Football Netball Club. The men and women of the MFNC are true warriors always striving for excellence in execution.

Football

Last week we hosted Macorna in what was always going to be a battle of titanic proportions as the loser would slip away that little bit. Well, Moulamein proved to be the better side on the day. We had some wonderful contributors on the day and all we need to do now is to straighten up in front of the goal and we will cause other teams to be very wary of the scintillating swans. Moulamein has one of the best on-ball combinations and they always contribute and provide plenty of drive for the forwards. Luke Smailes, Josh Flight and I would include Luke Shannon who yesterday received my three votes as the best player on the ground.

Nevertheless, we all need to get training to get the combinations working and the fitness base up so that we can run out games and leave the opposition behind.

It always rouses the spirits when the game is close and there are still plenty of high marks, long kicks, great tackles and special handballs which have the game in good stead for all time and are a great feature to watch now that we are unable to play but spectate or become the umpire’s escort which is a satisfying as well.

Today, we take on Hay at Hay which in itself is a challenge going back to the days of the Conroy cup (which was played between Moulamein, Balranald and Hay) those days there used to be special trains running so everyone can get to the game. This week however in our special SUVs and the bus we will be singing the song all the way to Hay in preparation for today’s game. I have been told that Hay still has the big full forward but we have the talent in the backline to handle him and besides that runaway and deliver to the big and talented men in the forward line. Moulamein has the excellence of execution in what one can describe as the envy of other clubs within the league with possibly one exception. We always play well at Hay and have had some steering victories, let us say that today is no exception. Hay cannot be taken lightly as they are a terrific side at home, however, the Moulamein football netball club is playing for the double chance and a victory today will enhance the possibility of that occurring.

Moulamein is a side that can play football at its highest level and given that we will need to be at our best today we should ensure that we go into the game with a positive frame of mind and a 30 goal target. Today the roving reporter Moulamein to win by 48 points

Last weeks result

In a spirited defence, the mighty Moulamein swans were victorious in the seniors

Moulamein 11-9-75 def Macorna 8-13-61
A tight high marking game that was a pleasure to watch.

The reserves played well against the side that is tipped to win the flag at the end of the year. Macorna has always been a strong reserve side and today proves no exception. It was a good game to watch however we just need some fine-tuning and a little bit of togetherness and we will be up there with the big boys. The boys never gave up and were always competitive no matter what the situation so today the Moulamein football netball club Inc were always tackling hard and endeavouring to compete on the same level.

Moulamein 7 – 5 – 47 defeated by Macorna  17 – 14 – 116

In the under 17.5 football and this was a great contest with the Moulamein boys playing with the guile and perseverance to defeat Macorna. A great game and well worth watching for those who get there early and what’s the future of the club in the under 17.5. Well done to all and there were many good players all over the field. Today we didn’t rely on one man or two it was a team effort well done boys.

Moulamein 6 – 9 – 45 defeated Macorna 6 – 6 – 42

Goal Kickers: Locklin Prentice 3, Tyler Alford 2, Caleb Scandolera 1

BOG: Liam Drummond, Lachie Martin, Henry McGregor, Dawson Parange, Tyler Alford, Locklin Prentice

In the under 14.5 football we were no match for the taller and more talented Macorna, unfortunately, I did not see the whole game as I was watching the netball. The score at half-time was Moulamein 0 – 0 – 0 to Macorna 11 – 2 – 68. The score at full-time Moulamein 2 – 1  – 13 to Macorna 14 – 5 -93. I was told that the boys never gave up and tried all day.

Goal Kickers: Lawson Buckley 2

BOG: Rhys Wilson, Colby Skipsy, Lenny Ivers, Lawson Buckley, Noor Pearson, Henry Ivers

Netball

in the netball today we had some results that were outstanding and some that were not so outstanding. In the A grade Moulamein 67 were defeated by Macorna 63. What didn’t help the Moulamein girls was that Macorna had two girls at least 190 cm playing as goal keeper and goal defence our goal shooters at times had trouble scoring however many a time a few quick passes and boom goal so well done to Gemma and Emily who never gave up trying all day. I enjoy netball and I’m sure many others do as well so we all need to go in barrack and cheer on the girls so that they can provide even more entertainment.

Moulamein in the B grade overpowered Macorna and with the goalies shooting the lights out and with Courtney having a blinder in the centre we were too strong for the Macorna girls and look forward to many more encounters. Great games by Madison and Tenae as well we are blessed to have such great netballers.

Moulamein in the B reserve unfortunately could not continue on the form of last week and went down to a stronger Macorna side. This happened in the B grade spectators went crazy, supporters were singing the song and this is the spirit we like to see in Moulamein netball, unfortunately this was the B Reserve, playing on two courts simultaneously is a worry as we didn’t know which was which.

A Grade – Moulamein was defeated by Macorna      27 – 63

BOC - Ali May Buckley, Ellie Henry, Rhiannon Chalmers, Rhiannon O’Meara

Coaches Notes great effort girls next time, unfortunately, the result did not go our way today, in the A grade but we never gave up.

B Grade – Moulamein  defeated Macorna                 35 – 25

BOC - Madison Houlihan Tenae Walker, Courtney Atkins, Mandy Champion,

Coaches Notes – well-done girls top effort against a topside played with the Moulamein spirit.

B Reserve – Moulamein defeated by Macorna          27 – 37

BOC - Amy Starick, Holly McCulloch, Jess Treloar, Meganne Bath

Coaches Notes – couldn’t continue on the form last week but never gave up sterling effort girls

U14.5 – Moulamein defeated by Macorna                20 – 28

BOC - Mia Bennett, Sophie Bennett. Sky Starr, Maddy Anthony, Tarlie Ewart

Coaches Notes: well done to the girls in the very hard fought game unfortunately couldn’t get the win today, proud of your efforts to day. Let’s continue to work as a team and improve our skills.

F Troop – Moulamein defeated Macorna                 27 – 7

BOC - Olivia Anthony , McKenna Hull, Breeze Starr, Grace Anthony Lilly McCullough,  Maddy McCullough, Almay McKenzie, Jazmyn Worboyes, Talia McGlashan, Amy Gorey

Amazing game today by the F Troop girls! So much determination and drive up and down the court. We definitely have some up-and-coming stars in this group! Well done Olivia for your 100% effort all across the court and McKenna for your outstanding shooting this week! So proud of you all for achieving the individual goals you set before stepping on the court.

I urge all people who enjoy netball to come along and watch as I am sure the netballers would appreciate your support, cheering and general enthusiasm whilst watching the games. There is nothing wrong with barracking cheering and clapping but you are not allowed to chastise the players or umpires, I love netball.

Hot Dog

The hotdog rating for the week was a 9.4.

Whilst the roles were not buttered they were fairly exquisite and the hotdog was lovely therefore 9.4 rating is well deserved you’ll never get a 10 unless you butter the rolls Moulamein very nice though they were.
