Round 14:
It was a chilly, crisp white start to what was our last home game for the year. Up against old rivals Ultima our 4ths the boys kicked off the frost and played some impressive football. Parker and Charlie both finished with 3 goals each in an even contribution across the field.
Award Winners: Xavier Murray (Kerang Electronics), Charlie Toohey (Riversdale Farms), Parker Bray (Toohey Farms), Evan McNeil (Lake Charm Salt), Zane McKerrow (Canteen Voucher).
The 3rds game was a cracker, and although the score line was considerable, the boys were able to apply pressure across the ground and hit the scoreboard multiple times. Free, Kye and Darcy were all solid down back, but it was once again Sam Copland who took the honours for best on ground. Down forward, Angus McDonald and Bailey Bujdoso kicked some impressive team lifting goal and Archer McKnight was able to create attack after attack as well.
Award Winners: Kye McKerrow (McKnight & Bray), Ryleigh Wilkinson (Nethercote Farms), Darcy Strange (D&J Hein), Angus McDonald (Morrow Socks), Bailey Bujdoso (AB Building Construction)
In the absence of coach Nick Hein due to covid protocols, the 2’s were stretched with a number of players required to play up in the seniors. We had a quiet 3rd quarter which was the difference in the end. A close battle, Adam Bujdoso took on the leadership role and lead from the front with BOG display. Blake Wilkinson first contest of the ay set himself up for a good day out and Bluey is a smooth operator.
Award Winners: Will Hartley (Greg Dickson), & Neil Teasdale (Car Wash)
The senior game was a tight tussle all day, a strong start to the last quarter was the difference enabling a victory for the Blues at home to finish the day. Captain Tom Hetherington was superb all day and had some key clearances in the last quarter to get the ball down forward quickly and into the hands of Daniel Hovey who kicked 5 goals to seal the victory. Special mention to Max Hartley playing 8 quarters for the day after some injuries early in the seniors.
Award Winners: Matt Penny (Royal Hotel), Max Hartley (Mystic Park Hotel).
Netball
Under 12 awards:
Most discipline: Lyla Morton, McDonalds: Ivy Shea, Ella Henry & Imi Collier. Socks: Stella Ettershank, Canteen: Eliza Maher.
Under 14 went down to a handy Ultima team. Macy Bray (Copland $5) and Georgia Carse (Morrow socks) formed a handy combination in defence which will no doubt grow into the future. Other awards to Chloe Strange (Chips) and Alexis McKnight (McDonalds) who stepped up from under 12’s.
17’s were up against the top side and battled hard all game, Jessie Teasdale (Harvey/Laursen $10) and Mila Bray (McDonalds) are bringing back their senior experience to stand out week in week out and Alison Copland took home AB Building $5.
B res were slightly depleted so had to knuckle down and play a strong 60 minutes of netball to take a hard fought win. Best wishes to Sarah who went down with a nasty injury - we wish her a speedy recovery. Awards to Jessie Teasdale (Scissors), Hannah Perry (Grays) & Erica Cummins (Coaches).
B grade suffered their first loss for the year, with covid striking again the girls had to shuffle around a little but they were right in the game until the end, Ultima just took their opportunities a little better than we did. Best to Aimee Sinclair Pam’s) and Mila Bray(Grays) for their work in turning the ball over in defence.
A grade was always going to be a good game with finals places on the line. The momentum swung throughout the game but the girls always remained composed and put plenty of scoreboard pressure on when things were going their way. Best to Lauren Morrow (Tailored Peach) in goals and Steph Reeves (Grays) who is enjoying a fabulous run of form.
