MAGPIE NATION
After well earned weekend of reflection for the Club on a stellar season start, lets bask in the glory of the previous Saturday. We saw our football sides clip the wings of our Mallee Eagles neighbours with the climax coming in the last quarter of the Senior game with a thrilling come from behind victory. It started with a cameo by a Tresco centre half back come centre half forward and was iced by a whiley old veteran, he should always be played as a forward, who snuck down to bob up for the winner. It had women cart wheeling in joy, what a win. Our teams on the netball court found the going a bit tougher but again their determination in all grades was impressive, win lose or draw.
In Senior football the team found it hard to get going against an impressive opposition that true fully should have been further in front by three quarter time. But they left the door open to a Magpie unit that all day showed the physical capacity to keep the Eagles harnessed and then in the last quarter, lead by Josh Filo, dominate the contest and clean up their skills to run over the top of the Eagle bystanders in what was a black and white explosion. Best: J Filo, J Simpson, O Rhode, M Taverna, C Johnston & the human wrecking ball B Hogan.
The Reserves never looked threatened. Dominant out of the middle and solid as the concrete blocks on lakeside down back ,the well oiled twos demolished the Eagles. In some skilful open play the boys moved the ball with precision and racked up another comprehensive win.
Best: T Richardson, D Hayes, Rig Harvey, B Tripcony, C Fox & A Clarke.
The Colts again came up against a physically robust opposition and responded with a controlled aggression at the ball that was enough to win a game that they were always in control of. I’m sure some revitalising has been done over the break to refresh the lads back into their skilful best.
Best: R Harvey, Z Palmer, C Bryan, F Colville, Roo Drotsky & B Palmer.
U/14.5’s football was an entertaining game of football. The young Magpies fine tuned they’re game plan without overwhelming the scoreboard attendants in another great win. Players that had been down in previous weeks got plenty of the footy and the team gelled to run out 22 point victors.
Best : Bullet Anderson, P Dear, H Brown , Reef Mulligan, N Noble & M Caruso.
U/12’s took the bit between the teeth and were unstoppable in a relentless desire to compete. Fuelled by a fun loving joy of the game they had another fantastic win (unofficially on top of the imaginary ladder)
Best: F Barnes, E Ray, A Kristen, L Murphy & E Doolan.
NETBALL
Not quite the results all teams were after but a clean sweep by the Jnr teams and a long awaited win for our B res girls.
Our Jnrs kicked a fresh morning off with some exciting wins. Our little 12s and the 16s kicked off the first round and our 14s and 18s followed suit not long after, 18s had their first real test and came away with a very gritty win. All Coaches the past couple of weeks have taken the chance to get their teams rotated in positions which is enabling our Jnr side to be versatile and not a one position team. It is a challenging act but one that has and will benefit side.

Boga Snrs had more of a challenging day with 3 sides playing top 5 positioned teams. However it’s is also a great contest and one we walk away with in a positive light after a loss. Well done to our B Reserve team coached by Sandra and Sheridan , persistence pays, off a win was locked away. Continue with your work with the team and I’m sure this won’t be the last.
B, A Reserve and A grade faced a challenge set out by the Eagles and unfortunately fell short. After talking to all coaches its definitely something that can be altered and a good time for a loss for all 3 teams to be able to act on.
A Grade: Boga 51 Lalbert 61 Best: S Hepburn &L Brennan.
A Res: Boga 37 Lalbert 60 Best: Milla Holt & Stephanie Anderson.
B Grade: Boga 40 Lalbert 44 Best:BJ Davies & S Taverna

A shout out though to our Seniors footballers for the thrilling come from behind win. Another Saturday arises this week with the anticipation of a flogging of an old rival. Lets hope we sending them home yelping with their tails between their legs and for our boys and girl to get themselves up for a traditional clash.
