ROUND 4 Versus Woorinen
Mallee Eagles had a lot to celebrate on Saturday away from the playing field which is what sport brings to our lives. Friendships and connections.
The 1st being an incredible occasion of the 4 McGregor brothers-Tom, Darcy, Hamish and Harry all being selected in the senior side and playing together.
The 2nd being that Stuart McGregor was inducted as a Life Member of our club. Stuart has taken on so many jobs over the years and this recognition is so well deserved. Congratulations Stu!!
The 3rd celebration was the Reunion of our 1952 Premiership Team. To see 5 men being able to represent their team 70 years on was truly wonderful. Jim Bookham, Rob Allen, Les & Ken Gray and Pat Power were acknowledged for their roles in the ’52 team and the whole club congratulates them.
The 4th celebration was the Reunion of the 1992 Premiership team. 13 players were able to get together to celebrate and remember the year with pride. Bernie Conlan –the captain of the 92 side had got together with Chips McCartney to do an analysis of each team member which was very entertaining.
FOOTBALL
It was a tough day at the office for our Seniors with injuries playing a big part in being undermanned against a strong team. Zac O’Meara continues to shine along with Darcy McGregor, Beau Bennett, Sam Dunstan, Wes Bennett and Hamish McGregor-lots of local names in these BOG’s.
Our Ressies were also beaten convincingly- Best Players being Cayden O’Meara, Ryan Fordham, Dan Lavey, Josh Bibby, Brayden Duffin and Bailey Talbot.
Our Colts are continuing to combine and play well together and had a strong win 85-33 with best players being Liam Drummond, Billy O’Meara, Lachlan Bull, Thomas Dunn, Bryce Baskin and Harrison Stanyer.
Our U14’s were far too strong for Woorinen winning convincingly. Our best players were Max Parsons, Vaughn O’Bree, Jobe Roberts, Hunter Wells, Grace Ayars and Jack Symeoy.
NETBALL
Our senior Grades are ticking along nicely with many teams in strong positions on the ladder. It’s great to see some extra training sessions taking place which definitely improves our fitness and connectedness on the court come Saturday. Keep it up girls!!
A Grade had a great win over Woorinen 62-40
A Res defeated Woorinen 55-32
B Grade defeated Woorinen 42-29
B Res are improving all the time and lost by 7 goals.
U18’s lost by 5 goals
U 16’s won 49-33
U 14’s and U 12’s were well beaten but losing certainly creates an opportunity to learn.
SOCIAL EVENTS
Dinner at Mystic Park will take place after our Kerang Game this Saturday.
It is always a great feed at the pub and a social get together after a tough opposition like Kerang.
Thank you to all our sponsors for the awards each week-to name a few of our junior football sponsors: Kingwill Landscaping, Gray’s Bakery, Mallee Milk, Pizza Kitchen, JC’s Bait & Tackle, Shepherd, Parsons, Wells and Hansen Families and Ryan Fordham Award. Our club appreciates all your support.
