Well our “much talked about” twilight game against the Cohuna Kangas took place last week and although we didn’t win the main game we won every other one so it wasn’t all doom and gloom!. First up was the U ‘12’s, I know the score is not kept for this game but if you ask any of the kids who played they will certainly tell you who won!. Then the U ‘14’s and got the points in their game, followed by the Colts who had an excellent win over their arch rivals. It was then the Ressy’s and they did not let the Raiders fans down either with a hard fought win, up to 15 players are either injured or unavailable for this team so it was an excellent result for them!. The Seniors could not maintain the momentum and lost their game!.
Night game’s, some like it, some don’t, it should be played as early as possible into the season (first or second game)!. The later it is played the more you are subject to the elements and nobody wants to watch footy or netball freezing their you know what’s off!, plus can’t think of any clubs in our league who have got a roof over their ground!.
Well done to Will Lake on playing his first senior game last Saturday, one of our many rising stars currently playing Colts football.
This weekend is the big one, it’s “Ladies Day”, this annual charity day is usually very well supported as the ladies let their hair down and have a good day!.
Onto the footy and the Seniors found it very tough against the p’ship fav., not having Col McVeigh play was unfortunate but they fought it to the end which was a credit to them. Awards went to Josh Iducia (Raiders Man of the Day), Jacob Barrington (Royal Hotel Barham), Paddy Goble (Barham Hotel), and Blake Watts (Nthn Tree Fellas). Others to play well were Jack Shannon, Morgan Randall and Kye Attwell.
The Reserves got the points in a hard fought game to make them two from two, a good result for them at this time of the year!. Awards went to James Martin (Wes Hare Spraying Services “Scooby of the Day”). Matty Dean (Royal Hotel Barham), Ash Molin (Barham Hotel), and Luke Newton (Raiders Canteen Award). The Colts really turned the after burners on in their game and finished up with a very convincing win over their opponents. Awards went to Nick Frankling (Royal Hotel Barham), Trinity Starr (Don Taylor Pen), Ryan Bassett (Lanes Electrical Socks), and Eli Boyd (Wilma Bott Canteen Award). Well done to Josh Mc Mahon also who jagged five goals for himself. Good work to the young Colts who double up for the Seniors each week, it’s a big ask but the club certainly appreciates it!.
This week we play host to Balranald, they will be a tough opponent as they are normally a big side to contend with, but we are going okay so let’s chalk up another victory on our home turf!.
