Woorinen Football Netball Club

Vs Cohuna

Great day at ‘the Den’ on Good Friday and a big thanks goes out to Cohuna and all of their players, coaches, volunteers and supporters for helping make it the day it was. Also a big thanks to all of our helpers who put the club a forward and helped make the day a success. We should also thank JJ and Hannah and the girls for joining in as Tigers for the day and almost helping get us over the line in a great game of footy.

Netball

U12’s
Great team effort contributing to another win with some great passages of play, was good to be out playing on the new courts. Awards went to Jolei Delmenico and Anique Ward.

U14’s
The girls are starting to play really, really well as a team. The girls put into practice exactly what they trained on Thursday and were able to capatilise on the many turnovers created by Ava and Janke in defence.
Willow was unstoppable in the goal
Ring and she is proving to be a strong and consistent shooter for the team.
Another great team effort and awesome win by the girls.

U16’s
No game

U18’s
The U18’s have been working hard at trainings to improve their ball use efficiency and driving to the ball. The game against Cohuna exhibited the improvement all of the girls are making as a team.
The Free girls were strong at both ends of the court and helped the smooth transition from defence to attack.
There were some terrific patches of play that displayed the strong, potential of upcoming senior netballers at Woorinen.
Unfortunately, our girls fell short to Cohuna on the weekend, with plenty to take away and work on at trainings! Amazing effort by all the girls against a strong side.

B res
The B Res girls fought to the end however unfortunately ended up going down by 2. With the help of our amazing junior Chloe Twentyman in who stepped up and play her first junior game. Chloe shot beautifully and scored our best on. Our defensive team played another strong game with countless intercepts and high pressure on the ball. Chelsea Pearce received our other award for her high intensity and 2 hand intercepts. Overall the
B res girls played a ripper game and looking forward to facing Cohuna again at the end of the season.

B grade
The B grade girls had another great win on Friday but it wasn’t easy! With the help of some amazing juniors stepping up and helping out, as well as Hope Beasy making a comeback to also fill in for us! It was definitely a hot day but we came through with a win by 4, with a tough first half.
Our two best on were, Gaby Rogers (Jones) who has just made a comeback after having a baby only 9 weeks ago, she is smashing it down in the defensive end and also one of our strong juniors Dakota Wilkins in WA. Well done girls.

A res
The A res girls had another great game on Good Friday, fighting hard in the first half under the hot conditions of the day to then get on top of the ball and run away with it in the second half of the game! Best on court was defensive player Brooke Taylor and also a huge effort and congratulations to Ava Crow on her first senior game who stepped up and held her own against some tough opponents! With the return of Amy Cadd, who shot more goals then she would have in the 2019 season! And thanks to Meg Hogan for stepping in and running the court as she does best! Well done A res on a great win in the end!

A grade
The A grade girls had another tough battle this weekend facing the Cohuna Kangas with the Tigers just coming out on top with a 1 point victory. In the first hit out on Woorinen’s new courts, the A grade game provided a large crowd with a physical, fast paced and very hot game.
Throughout the game both the Kangas and Tigers had their time in front but it was the Tiges in the end who were able to use their centre passes and turnovers to get their first win of the season.
The girls utilised their bench to maintain fresh legs in the steamy conditions, with all players stepping up to the plate at different stages of the game. The two standout players however were Skye Kelly and Emily Siely.

Football

U’12’s

Under 12s didn’t have a game this week but most of them got involved in the football clinic after the senior game with the senior players.

U’14.5’s

In the under 14s Keegs took the magnets this week and steered the boys to a massive victory, credit to Keegs and Chocco for moving the boys around to different positions to help their development.

Colts

The colts had a nail biter eventually grinding a victory over a gallant Cohuna team, Great performances from Otto Conlan and Cooper Beasley steered Mac and Dingo home for their first win as coaches.

Reserves

The reserves saw the return of some big names as Murph and Big TC took the field, the 2s come away big winners in the end. Jas Nuch and Scrapper having great games and Caddy dropping in to help out and doing what he wanted.

Seniors

The senior game was one of the best country footy games seen in a long time and the crowd from all different clubs and locations would all attest to this.
The 1st quarter was both teams working each other out and then in the 2nd quarter the tigers took off and had a comfortable lead at half time. Cohuna being the great side they are peeled off the lead in the 3rd quarter which setup a grand stage for our first Good Friday blockbuster. Both teams threw everything at it with both teams looking the winner at points in the last quarter, Cohuna eventually ended up in from at the final bell in a fantastic game of football.
Arny Kirby and Jye Barry were fantastic all day, they are becoming a great duo in midfield.

The challenge is set again as we take on Kerang today… all the best boys.
